PortAventura World for UK Families: Complete 2027 Guide

PortAventura World 2027 guide for UK families

Planning a trip to PortAventura World for UK families in 2027? This complete 2027 guide covers everything families need to know before visiting, from choosing the right parks and tickets to the best rides, hotels, queue strategies and how many days you’ll actually need.

Located on Spain’s Costa Dorada, close to Salou, PortAventura World is one of Europe’s biggest family theme park destinations. With PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land and Caribe Aquatic Park all in one resort, it can easily become the centrepiece of a Costa Dorada holiday.

But unlike a simple day at a theme park, there are quite a few decisions to make before you arrive. Should you visit for one, two or three days? Is Ferrari Land worth it? Do you need Express Passes? And is staying at a PortAventura hotel worth the extra cost?

We’ve put everything together in one place to help UK families plan smarter, avoid common mistakes and get more from their time at PortAventura World.

🎢 PortAventura World at a Glance

PortAventura World is made up of three separate parks, each offering a very different experience. Here’s the quick version before we get into the detail.

🎢 PortAventura Park

The main theme park and the one we’d consider essential. It’s home to the resort’s biggest selection of rides, themed areas, family attractions and shows.

🏎️ Ferrari Land

A smaller second theme park built around Ferrari, with Red Force as its headline attraction. It’s best combined with PortAventura Park rather than treated as a full-day park.

💦 Caribe Aquatic Park

PortAventura World’s water park, with slides, pools and family attractions. It’s particularly appealing during the hot Costa Dorada summer.

PortAventura World at a glance guide for UK families

🎯 Which PortAventura Park Should You Visit?

If you’re visiting PortAventura World for the first time, PortAventura Park should be your priority. It’s by far the largest of the three parks and has the widest mix of thrill rides, family attractions, children’s areas and shows.

Ferrari Land is much smaller and works best as an addition to a PortAventura Park day or as part of a multi-day ticket. Thrill-seekers will want to experience Red Force, while younger visitors will find a smaller selection of family attractions.

Caribe Aquatic Park is completely different. It’s a dedicated water park and makes a great extra day during the warmer months, particularly if you’re staying in Salou or at one of the PortAventura hotels.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Verdict

First visit: PortAventura Park is essential.
Thrill-seekers: PortAventura Park + Ferrari Land.
Hot summer holiday: Add Caribe Aquatic Park.
How long to allow: At least two days for PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land, plus an extra day if you want to visit Caribe Aquatic Park.

🎢 PortAventura Park – The Main Event

PortAventura Park is the heart of the resort and the park we’d recommend spending the most time in. It’s divided into six themed areas — Mediterrània, Polynesia, China, México, Far West and SésamoAventura — with everything from major roller coasters to gentle family rides and attractions for younger children.

For thrill-seekers, this is where you’ll find some of PortAventura World’s biggest rides, including Shambhala, Dragon Khan and Furius Baco. Families have plenty to choose from too, making this the park with the broadest appeal.

🎢 Best Thrill Rides at PortAventura Park

Shambhala – One of PortAventura’s standout roller coasters and an absolute must for thrill-seekers. The huge first drop, speed and airtime make this one we’d prioritise early in the day.

Dragon Khan – A PortAventura classic packed with inversions. It sits alongside Shambhala in the China area, making it easy to tackle both together.

Furius Baco – A high-speed launch coaster near the park entrance. It’s intense, fast and can build significant queues, so it’s another good candidate for early in the day.

Uncharted: The Enigma of Penitence – A heavily themed indoor coaster experience that’s very different from PortAventura’s traditional outdoor thrill rides. Because of its popularity, queue times can become substantial.

👨‍👩‍👧 Best Rides for Families

PortAventura isn’t only about huge roller coasters. Attractions such as Tutuki Splash, Grand Canyon Rapids and Street Mission give families plenty to enjoy together, while SésamoAventura is specifically designed with younger children in mind.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

If the headline rides are important to your family, prioritise them early. Queue times can change considerably throughout the day, so avoid relying on one fixed touring plan and check the latest wait times when you visit.

🎢 PortAventura Park Ride Guide

With so many attractions across PortAventura Park, it helps to know which rides should be highest on your family’s list. Here’s our quick guide to some of the park’s biggest attractions.

PortAventura Park must-ride guide for UK families

🏎️ Is Ferrari Land Worth Visiting?

Ferrari Land is much smaller than PortAventura Park, so we wouldn’t plan an entire day around it. However, it’s definitely worth considering as part of a multi-park ticket — particularly if you have older children or thrill-seekers in the family.

The headline attraction is Red Force, a launched roller coaster that accelerates from 0 to 180 km/h in around five seconds and climbs to a height of 112 metres. It’s the ride that makes Ferrari Land particularly appealing to serious coaster fans.

But Ferrari Land isn’t only about Red Force. There are family attractions, racing-themed experiences and rides for younger visitors, although the overall selection is considerably smaller than at PortAventura Park.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Verdict

Worth it for thrill-seekers? Yes — Red Force alone makes it worth experiencing.

Worth a full day? No. We’d combine Ferrari Land with PortAventura Park rather than dedicate an entire day to it.

Best for: Families with older children, teenagers, coaster fans and anyone interested in Ferrari.

Our recommendation: If your ticket includes Ferrari Land, absolutely visit it. If you’re choosing between Ferrari Land and an additional full day at PortAventura Park, we’d prioritise PortAventura Park for most families.

🏎️ Best Rides at Ferrari Land

Ferrari Land has fewer attractions than PortAventura Park, but there are still several worth prioritising. For most thrill-seekers, Red Force is the main event, while families can enjoy a mix of racing-themed rides and interactive attractions.

🔴 Red Force

The undisputed headline attraction. Red Force launches riders from 0 to 180 km/h in around five seconds before climbing its enormous 112-metre tower. If you love roller coasters, this should be at the top of your Ferrari Land list.

🏁 Maranello Grand Race

A Ferrari-themed driving attraction where families can take control of their own car around a race-inspired circuit. It’s a much gentler experience than Red Force and gives Ferrari Land broader family appeal.

🗼 Thrill Towers

Two drop-tower-style attractions offering very different sensations from the roller coasters. A good choice for anyone looking for another adrenaline hit after Red Force.

🏎️ Racing Legends & Flying Dreams

These simulator-style attractions lean more heavily into the Ferrari theme and provide something different from the outdoor rides.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

Check height restrictions before promising children particular rides. Red Force and some of Ferrari Land’s thrill attractions have minimum height requirements, so checking the latest restrictions before your visit can avoid disappointment.

💦 Is Caribe Aquatic Park Worth Adding?

Caribe Aquatic Park is PortAventura World’s dedicated water park and can be a brilliant addition to a Costa Dorada holiday, especially during the hotter summer months.

It’s a separate park from PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land, with water slides, pools, splash areas and attractions aimed at different ages. Rather than trying to squeeze it into a theme park day, we’d treat Caribe Aquatic Park as a separate water-park day.

For families staying in Salou for a week or longer, it can also provide a welcome change of pace between busy theme park days.

🌊 Who Is It Best For?

Families with younger children: There are gentler pools, splash areas and smaller slides alongside the bigger attractions.

Older children and teenagers: The larger slides provide considerably more excitement.

Summer visitors: This is when we’d be most tempted to add it, particularly during very hot weather.

Short trips: If you only have one or two days at PortAventura World, we’d prioritise PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land unless a water park is particularly important to your family.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Verdict

Worth adding? Yes, particularly on a longer Costa Dorada holiday.

How long to allow: Give it its own day rather than trying to combine all three parks.

Our recommendation: For a typical week-long Salou family holiday, we’d consider two days for PortAventura Park/Ferrari Land + one separate Caribe Aquatic Park day an excellent combination.

🎟️ PortAventura Tickets – Which Ticket Should You Buy?

Choosing the right PortAventura World ticket depends mainly on how many days you have and which parks your family actually wants to visit.

For most UK families staying in Salou for a week, we wouldn’t try to cram PortAventura Park, Ferrari Land and Caribe Aquatic Park into a single day. You’ll get far more from the resort by allowing enough time to enjoy each park without constantly watching the clock.

🎢 One-Day Tickets

A one-day ticket makes most sense if you’re short on time and primarily want to experience PortAventura Park.

If this is your first visit, we’d concentrate on the main park rather than trying to see everything across the resort.

🎢🏎️ Multi-Day & Multi-Park Tickets

For most families, this is where we’d start looking.

Having multiple days gives you time to explore PortAventura Park properly, revisit favourite attractions and include Ferrari Land without sacrificing a large part of your main park day.

If the price difference is reasonable for your dates, the extra flexibility can be well worth it.

💦 Tickets Including Caribe Aquatic Park

Consider these if you’re visiting during the warmer months and genuinely want a dedicated water-park day.

Don’t automatically pay extra for access to all three parks simply because it’s available. If your family isn’t particularly interested in water parks, put that money towards something you’ll actually use.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Recommendation

1 day available: Prioritise PortAventura Park.

2 days available: PortAventura Park + Ferrari Land is our preferred combination.

3 days available: Add Caribe Aquatic Park and give it a separate day.

Longer stay: Look carefully at multi-day ticket pricing — the additional days can sometimes offer much better value than buying separate visits.

🎟️ Compare PortAventura Ticket Options

⚡ Are PortAventura Express Passes Worth It?

PortAventura’s most popular attractions can develop long queues, particularly during weekends, school holidays and the busiest summer months. An Express option can therefore be tempting — but we wouldn’t automatically buy one for every visit.

Whether it’s worth the extra cost depends on when you’re visiting, which rides matter most to your family and how much time you have in the parks.

👍 When We’d Consider Express

You’re visiting during peak season: July, August and busy school-holiday periods can bring much larger crowds.

You only have one day: If this is your only opportunity to experience PortAventura Park, reducing time spent queuing can become much more valuable.

Your family loves the headline rides: If attractions such as Shambhala and other major thrill rides are the main reason you’re visiting, Express access may help you achieve considerably more.

You hate queues: Sometimes convenience itself is worth paying for — particularly with children.

👎 When We’d Probably Skip It

You have multiple park days: Two days gives you much more flexibility to catch attractions at different times.

You’re visiting on a quieter date: Paying extra before knowing whether queues justify it could be unnecessary.

Your family mainly wants gentler attractions: Express access may offer less value depending on your ride priorities.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

We wouldn’t automatically buy Express before the holiday. Check exactly what your ticket or hotel package includes, which attractions are covered by the current Express options and the expected crowd levels for your visit before deciding.

If you’re staying at a PortAventura World hotel, also check the current hotel benefits before purchasing anything separately — packages and included perks can change.

🏨 Is It Worth Staying at a PortAventura Hotel?

You don’t have to stay at a PortAventura World hotel to enjoy the parks. Salou has a huge choice of accommodation nearby, and staying in the resort can often give families more flexibility for restaurants, beaches and evenings away from the theme parks.

However, an official PortAventura hotel can make a lot of sense if the parks are the main focus of your holiday.

👍 Why We’d Consider Staying On-Site

Convenience: Being close to the parks makes early starts and tired evenings considerably easier, particularly with children.

Park packages: Official hotel packages may include park admission or other benefits, so compare the total holiday cost rather than looking only at the room price.

Theme park atmosphere: If PortAventura is the highlight of the trip, staying within the resort can make the experience feel more special.

Less travelling: You won’t need to organise transport between your Salou hotel and the parks each day.

👎 Why We’d Stay in Salou Instead

More choice: Salou has everything from budget apartments to larger family resorts.

Beach access: Staying closer to the coast makes it easier to combine theme-park days with a proper Mediterranean holiday.

Restaurants and evenings: You’ll have a wider choice away from the theme-park resort.

Longer holidays: For a 7–10 night Costa Dorada holiday, we’d usually prefer Salou unless PortAventura is the main purpose of the trip.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Verdict

For a short PortAventura-focused break, we’d seriously consider staying at an official resort hotel.

For a week-long family holiday, we’d generally prefer staying in Salou and travelling to PortAventura — giving you the best combination of theme parks + beach holiday.

🚗 How to Get to PortAventura World

PortAventura World is very easy to reach from Salou and the surrounding Costa Dorada resorts. The best option depends on where you’re staying and whether you’ve hired a car.

🚕 From Salou

PortAventura World is only a short distance from central Salou. For families, a taxi is often the simplest option, particularly when travelling with younger children or returning after a long day in the parks.

Depending on where you’re staying, walking may also be possible, but remember that you’ll already be doing plenty of walking once you’re inside the parks.

🚗 By Car

Driving gives you the most flexibility, particularly if you’re staying elsewhere on the Costa Dorada or planning to combine PortAventura with other day trips.

If you’re hiring a car for your holiday, check the latest parking charges and opening arrangements directly with PortAventura World before travelling.

Planning to explore more of the Costa Dorada? You can compare car hire prices before travelling to see whether hiring a car makes sense for your trip.

🚆 By Train

Rail can also be useful depending on where you’re travelling from, particularly from other parts of the Costa Dorada or Barcelona. Check current routes and timetables for your travel dates, as services and station arrangements can change.

✈️ From Barcelona Airport

If you’re flying into Barcelona and travelling directly towards Salou or PortAventura, your main options are private transfer, public transport or car hire.

For families carrying luggage, a pre-booked private transfer can be the easiest door-to-door option.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

Don’t choose your airport purely on the cheapest flight price. Compare the total cost of flights, luggage and onward transport to your accommodation before booking.

☀️ Best Time to Visit PortAventura World

Best time to visit PortAventura World for UK families

🍔 Food & Drink at PortAventura World

You’ll find plenty of places to eat throughout PortAventura World, ranging from quick-service snacks and fast food to themed restaurants and sit-down meals.

Food inside a major theme park is rarely the cheapest part of the day, so it’s worth thinking about when you plan your budget — particularly if you’re visiting as a family for several days.

🍽️ Where to Eat

Each themed area of PortAventura Park has different food options, so we wouldn’t necessarily walk across the park just to reach one particular restaurant. Instead, check what’s nearby when you’re ready to eat and use the opportunity to take a break from the rides.

Ferrari Land and Caribe Aquatic Park also have their own food and drink options.

💷 Budget Tip

Check PortAventura World’s current rules on bringing food and drinks into the parks before your visit, as policies can change.

We’d also budget for drinks, snacks and meals before the holiday rather than treating them as an afterthought — over several park days, they can become a noticeable part of the overall cost.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

Try eating slightly earlier or later than the traditional lunchtime rush. Apart from potentially avoiding the busiest restaurant periods, it can leave you free to target rides while other visitors are eating.

👨‍👩‍👧 PortAventura With Children – Family Tips

PortAventura World works well for families with children of different ages, but it’s worth doing a little planning before you arrive. The biggest roller coasters have height restrictions, while younger children have dedicated attractions and areas designed specifically for them.

📏 Check Height Restrictions Before You Go

If your children are excited about particular rides, check the latest official height restrictions before your holiday.

This is especially important for the major thrill rides. Knowing in advance which attractions everyone can ride can save disappointment once you’re inside the park.

🧸 Visiting With Younger Children

SésamoAventura should be high on your list. This colourful Sesame Street-themed area is designed around younger visitors and offers a very different experience from PortAventura’s major roller coasters.

Don’t assume younger children won’t enjoy the rest of PortAventura Park either. There are family attractions, shows and gentler experiences throughout the park.

🎢 Visiting With Older Children & Teenagers

This is where PortAventura really comes into its own.

Families with confident older children and teenagers can have an excellent time tackling attractions such as Shambhala, Dragon Khan and Uncharted, with Ferrari Land adding Red Force for serious thrill-seekers.

👨‍👩‍👧 Different Ages in the Same Family?

Don’t try to keep everyone together for every single attraction.

If one person wants the biggest coasters while someone else prefers gentler rides, occasionally splitting up can make the day much more enjoyable. Agree somewhere to meet afterwards and let everyone experience the attractions they’re actually interested in.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip

Before your trip, let everyone choose two or three “must-do” attractions. Prioritise those first, then treat everything else as a bonus.

That simple approach can make a busy theme-park day much less stressful.

💡 PortAventura World Tips – Before You Go

🎟️ Buy tickets in advance
Don’t leave ticket planning until you arrive. Compare the different park combinations beforehand so you know exactly what’s included.

⏰ Arrive early
Being ready for the start of the park day can give you valuable time before queues build.

📱 Use the official PortAventura app
Use it during your visit for current park information and to help plan your day rather than relying entirely on a fixed itinerary.

👟 Wear comfortable shoes
You’ll cover a surprising amount of ground, especially during a full day at PortAventura Park.

☀️ Prepare for the heat
During summer, sunscreen, hats and regular drink breaks are essential. Don’t underestimate how tiring a hot park day can become.

📏 Check ride restrictions beforehand
Especially with children, check the latest height restrictions for your family’s must-do attractions before travelling.

🎢 Prioritise, don’t chase everything
Trying to complete every attraction can turn the day into a race. Pick everyone’s must-dos first and enjoy everything else as a bonus.

📅 Check the official calendar
Opening days, hours, shows and seasonal events can vary. Check the latest information shortly before your visit.

⭐ Our Biggest Tip

Don’t over-plan every hour. Have a shortlist of priorities, arrive with a rough strategy, then adapt to the queues and conditions on the day.

❓ PortAventura World FAQ

Is PortAventura World suitable for young children?

Yes. Although PortAventura is famous for its roller coasters, there are plenty of attractions for younger children. SésamoAventura is specifically aimed at younger visitors, with additional family-friendly rides and shows throughout the main park.

Is Ferrari Land included with PortAventura Park?

Ticket combinations vary, so don’t assume Ferrari Land is automatically included with every PortAventura Park ticket. Check exactly which parks are included when booking.

Can you do PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land in one day?

It’s possible, but we’d only recommend it if you’re short on time. For most families, having two days gives you a much more relaxed experience and more opportunity to enjoy PortAventura Park properly.

Is PortAventura World good for teenagers?

Absolutely. In fact, we’d rate PortAventura particularly highly for families with thrill-seeking older children and teenagers thanks to rides including Shambhala, Dragon Khan, Uncharted and Red Force.

How far is PortAventura World from Salou?

PortAventura World is very close to Salou, making it easy to combine the theme parks with a beach holiday. Your exact journey time will depend on where you’re staying and whether you’re travelling by taxi, car, public transport or walking.

⭐ Is PortAventura World Worth It for UK Families?

For families who enjoy theme parks, PortAventura World is one of the strongest reasons to consider the Costa Dorada for a European holiday.

You get major roller coasters and heavily themed attractions without needing to travel as far as Florida, while Salou’s beaches, restaurants and Mediterranean climate mean the holiday doesn’t have to revolve entirely around theme parks.

For families with younger children, there’s still plenty to enjoy, but we think PortAventura really shines for families with older children and teenagers, particularly those who love thrill rides.

🏆 Holiday Blueprint Verdict

Best for: Families, older children, teenagers and thrill-seekers
Don’t miss: PortAventura Park
Worth adding: Ferrari Land, particularly for Red Force
Summer extra: Caribe Aquatic Park
Ideal holiday: Combine PortAventura with several days enjoying Salou and the wider Costa Dorada

Would we build a Costa Dorada family holiday around PortAventura World? Absolutely — but we’d make it part of the holiday rather than the whole holiday.

Your Perfect 14-Day Orlando Itinerary at a Glance

14 Day Orlando Itinerary for UK Families 2027

Before You Follow This 14-Day Orlando Itinerary

This itinerary is designed as a flexible starting point rather than a strict schedule. Orlando park hours, crowd levels and weather can change throughout the year, so you may want to move individual days around to suit your travel dates.

Before you arrive, there are four things worth sorting out: where you’re staying, which theme park tickets you’re buying, how you’ll get around Orlando and which attractions matter most to your family.

Getting those decisions right first makes the rest of your Orlando holiday much easier to plan.

🏨 Where to Stay in Orlando

Where you stay can make a huge difference to this itinerary. Staying close to the parks you’ll visit most often can save hours of driving over a two-week holiday.

Disney resort hotels are particularly convenient if you’re spending several days at Walt Disney World, while Universal hotels can be a great choice for the Universal parks. Staying off-site often gives families more space and can offer better value, particularly if you’re hiring a car.

Not sure which area or hotel to choose? Read our Best Orlando Hotels for UK Families (2027) guide for our favourite options across different budgets and locations.

Compare Orlando Hotel Prices
Hotel prices can vary considerably depending on your dates, so it’s worth comparing current rates before deciding where to stay.

🎟️ Choose Your Orlando Theme Park Tickets

Theme park tickets will be one of the biggest costs of your Orlando holiday, so decide which parks you genuinely want to visit before buying.

This 14-day itinerary includes the four main Walt Disney World parks, Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe, SeaWorld Orlando, Busch Gardens and a water park. You don’t have to visit them all — use the itinerary as a template and swap days to suit your family.

Before buying anything, read our Orlando Theme Park Tickets for UK Travellers guide, where we explain the main ticket options and what to consider before booking.

🚗 Getting Around Orlando

Orlando is much more spread out than many first-time visitors expect. Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, shopping areas and your hotel can all be several miles apart, so it’s worth deciding how you’ll get around before you travel.

Hiring a car gives you the most flexibility, particularly with this itinerary because it includes Busch Gardens Tampa Bay as well as parks across Orlando. However, families staying mainly on-site at Disney or Universal may prefer to combine resort transport with Uber, Lyft or private transfers.

Not sure whether you need a car? Read our Orlando Car Hire for UK Travellers (2027) guide for insurance, driving tips, rental costs and what to expect when collecting your car.

Compare Orlando Car Hire Prices
If you’re planning to hire a car, compare prices before travelling and check what’s included in the rental rate rather than choosing on headline price alone.

🎢 Choosing Which Orlando Parks to Visit

Trying to fit every Orlando theme park into one holiday isn’t always the best approach. The right mix depends on your children’s ages, how much your family enjoys thrill rides and whether Disney magic or Universal’s faster-paced attractions appeal to you more.

Families with younger children may want to spend more time at Walt Disney World, while families with teenagers and thrill-seekers may prefer additional days at Universal Orlando. For many UK families, the ideal two-week holiday combines both.

Can’t decide how to split your time? Read our Disney vs Universal: Which Is Better for UK Families? (2027 Guide) for a full comparison of rides, hotels, dining and which resort suits different families.

Before you start: Your park ticket combination will determine how easily you can follow this itinerary. See our Orlando Theme Park Tickets for UK Travellers guide for help comparing Disney, Universal and other Orlando ticket options before you book.

Day 1 – Arrive in Orlando US

Plan: Arrive, check in and take it easy
Best for: Recovering from the flight and getting settled

After a long flight from the UK, resist the temptation to head straight to a theme park. By the time you’ve cleared immigration, collected your luggage, picked up a hire car or transfer and reached your hotel, you’ll probably be ready for a much easier evening.

Check in, unpack the essentials and spend some time exploring your hotel. If everyone still has some energy, head out for an early dinner, pick up drinks and snacks for the room, or have a relaxed wander around your resort.

Disney Springs can work well for families staying near Walt Disney World, while Universal CityWalk is a good option if you’re based closer to Universal. But don’t feel you have to do anything — an early night can be one of the smartest decisions of the holiday.

UK visitors often wake ridiculously early on their first morning because of the five-hour time difference. Rather than fighting it, we’re going to use that jet lag to our advantage on Day 2 at Magic Kingdom.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Keep your first evening flexible. Flight delays, immigration queues and baggage collection can easily change your arrival time, so don’t make an expensive restaurant reservation or book anything you can’t cancel.

Arriving at Orlando International Airport? Our Orlando Airport Transfers for UK Travellers guide compares the main ways to get from MCO to your hotel.

Day 2 – Magic Kingdom 🏰

Plan: Full Disney park day
Best for: Classic Disney, first-time visitors and families

Thanks to jet lag, there’s a good chance you’ll be awake much earlier than usual this morning — which makes Day 2 the perfect time for Magic Kingdom.

Aim to arrive before the park officially opens so you’re ready to make the most of the quieter first part of the day. Magic Kingdom is packed with classic attractions, character experiences and some of Walt Disney World’s most recognisable rides, so don’t try to do absolutely everything in one visit.

Pick your family’s must-do attractions beforehand and concentrate on those first. As crowds and temperatures build during the afternoon, slow the pace down with indoor attractions, a longer lunch or even a break back at your hotel if you’re staying nearby.

If everyone still has the energy, stay into the evening. Magic Kingdom feels completely different after dark, and finishing your first full Orlando day with the nighttime entertainment is a brilliant way to properly start the holiday.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t use all your energy during the first few days. You’ve got another 12 days ahead of you, including some very big park days.

Planning your whole Orlando holiday? Our Planning an Orlando Holiday from the UK guide covers the key decisions UK families should make before travelling.

Day 3 – Universal Studios Florida 🎬

Plan: Full Universal park day
Best for: Movie fans, Harry Potter and families with older children

Day 3 switches things up with your first visit to Universal Orlando Resort, starting at Universal Studios Florida.

After a big Disney day, Universal offers a different atmosphere with more emphasis on movies, immersive themed areas and faster-paced attractions. Arrive early again, but don’t worry about trying to tick off every attraction — you’ve got another Universal day tomorrow.

One of the highlights is The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley. Give yourself time to explore rather than simply rushing between rides; some of the best details are easy to miss when you’re concentrating on the next attraction.

If your ticket includes park-to-park access, you can ride the Hogwarts Express between Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure. However, I’d avoid spending too much time park-hopping today because tomorrow is dedicated to Islands of Adventure.

In the evening, Universal CityWalk makes an easy place for dinner because you’re already there and don’t need another journey across Orlando.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: If you’re staying at an eligible Universal hotel that includes Universal Express Unlimited, make the most of it on these Universal days. It can dramatically reduce the amount of time your family spends waiting in queues.

Wondering how Universal compares with Disney? Read our Disney vs Universal: Which Is Better for UK Families? (2027 Guide).

Day 4 – Islands of Adventure 🎢

Plan: Full Universal park day
Best for: Thrill rides, Harry Potter fans and older children

Day 4 continues your Universal adventure at Islands of Adventure, and for families who love thrill rides this could easily become one of the favourite days of the entire holiday.

Arrive early and prioritise the attractions that matter most to your family. Islands of Adventure is home to some of Universal Orlando’s biggest rides, including Jurassic World VelociCoaster and The Incredible Hulk Coaster, alongside attractions suitable for families who prefer something less intense.

You’ll also find The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade here. Even if you explored Diagon Alley yesterday, Hogsmeade deserves plenty of time of its own. If you have park-to-park tickets, the Hogwarts Express connects the two Harry Potter areas.

After two consecutive Universal days, don’t feel you need to stay until closing if everyone is starting to tire. We’re deliberately making Day 5 at Animal Kingdom a slightly slower-paced park day before your first proper rest day.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: If VelociCoaster or another major attraction is essential for your family, prioritise it early rather than leaving it until the end of the day when weather or temporary ride closures could ruin your plans.

Day 5 – Animal Kingdom 🦁

Plan: Disney park day with a slightly slower pace
Best for: Animals, immersive theming and a break from the biggest thrill-ride days

After two busy days at Universal, Animal Kingdom is a good choice for Day 5. It’s still a full theme park day, but it can be easier to take at a more relaxed pace than some of Orlando’s other major parks.

Start with the attractions highest on your family’s list. Pandora – The World of Avatar is one of the park’s highlights, while Kilimanjaro Safaris is particularly good earlier in the day when temperatures are cooler and the animals may be more active.

Don’t make the mistake of treating Animal Kingdom as simply a collection of rides. Take time to explore the animal trails, themed areas and entertainment between attractions. This is one park where slowing down can actually make the day better.

You also don’t necessarily need to stay from opening until closing. If you’ve achieved everything you wanted by late afternoon or early evening, head back to the hotel, have a swim and recharge.

That’s particularly worthwhile because Day 6 is our first proper rest day — and by this point in the holiday, you’ll probably be ready for it.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Animal Kingdom involves more walking than it can appear on a map. Comfortable shoes, plenty of water and a slower afternoon can make a big difference.

Day 6 – Rest, Pool & Shopping 😎

Plan: No theme parks
Best for: Recharging, swimming, shopping and a slower Orlando day

After four consecutive theme park days, Day 6 is deliberately park-free. It can be tempting to squeeze another attraction into every available day, but a proper break now can make the second week of your holiday much more enjoyable.

Have a lie-in, enjoy breakfast without watching the clock and spend the morning around the pool. If you’re staying somewhere with a particularly good resort pool, this is the day to actually enjoy something you’ve already paid for!

Later, you could head to Disney Springs for shopping, food and entertainment, visit one of Orlando’s outlet centres, or simply stay at the hotel and do very little.

This is also a good opportunity to catch up on laundry, reorganise the suitcase and stock up on drinks and snacks for the room. It might not sound exciting now, but halfway through a two-week Florida holiday it can be surprisingly welcome.

Try not to turn the “rest day” into another 12-hour sightseeing day. Tomorrow is Epic Universe, so keeping some energy in reserve is definitely worthwhile.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: If everyone is exhausted before Day 6 arrives, move the rest day forward. A good Orlando itinerary should work around your family — not the other way around.

Looking for somewhere good to eat? See our Best Restaurants in Orlando for Families guide for more family-friendly dining ideas.

Day 7 – Epic Universe 🌌

Plan: Full Epic Universe day
Best for: New attractions, immersive themed worlds and thrill-seekers

After yesterday’s rest day, you’re ready for one of the biggest days of the holiday — Universal Epic Universe.

Give Epic Universe a full day rather than trying to combine it with another park. With multiple themed worlds to explore, this is somewhere you’ll want time to take in the surroundings as well as experience the headline attractions.

Decide on your family’s must-do attractions before you arrive and prioritise those early. Don’t spend the entire day racing from ride to ride, though — much of Epic Universe’s appeal comes from exploring the individual worlds and their details.

Build some downtime into the afternoon for food, drinks and indoor attractions, particularly during the hotter months. After your Day 6 rest, you should have enough energy to stay into the evening if you want to experience the park after dark.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t leave your number-one Epic Universe attraction until the final hour of the day. Weather, technical delays or long queues can interfere with even the best-planned itinerary.

Day 8 – EPCOT 🌐

Plan: Full Disney park day with a later-paced evening
Best for: Big attractions, food, World Showcase and families who enjoy exploring

Day 8 takes you back to Walt Disney World for EPCOT, which offers a very different experience from Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom.

Start with the attractions that matter most to your family, then allow plenty of time later in the day to explore World Showcase. One of EPCOT’s strengths is that you don’t need to spend the entire day rushing between rides — wandering through the different country pavilions, trying different food and simply taking in the atmosphere is a big part of the experience.

Because EPCOT generally works particularly well later in the day and into the evening, don’t feel you have to attack this one at full speed from opening until closing. Take a proper lunch break and slow things down during the hottest part of the afternoon.

If your family enjoys trying different food, this can also be one of the best days of the itinerary for eating somewhere a little different rather than relying entirely on standard theme park meals.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: EPCOT is huge. Try to plan your route around the park rather than repeatedly walking from one side to the other — your feet will thank you by the evening.

Day 9 – Water Park Day 💦

Plan: Water park and a more relaxed evening
Best for: Cooling off, family fun and giving your feet a break

After another full Disney day, Day 9 changes the pace with a water park day. For this itinerary, our first choice would be Universal Volcano Bay, particularly if your Universal tickets already include access.

Volcano Bay combines big water slides with wave pools, lazy-river-style attractions and plenty of opportunities to slow things down. You can still have an action-packed day if you want one, but it feels very different from spending another full day walking around a traditional theme park.

Arrive reasonably early if the most popular slides are important to your family, then let the afternoon become more relaxed. There’s no need to turn this into another opening-to-closing marathon.

Once you’ve finished, head back to the hotel, shower and have an easy dinner. Keeping the evening relatively quiet is worthwhile because tomorrow takes you back to Walt Disney World for Hollywood Studios.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Florida sunshine can catch you out particularly quickly around water. Reapply high-factor sunscreen regularly, stay hydrated and use shaded areas during the hottest part of the day.

Day 10 – Hollywood Studios 🎬

Plan: Full Disney park day
Best for: Star Wars fans, thrill rides and movie-themed attractions

Day 10 takes you to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and although it’s smaller than some of Walt Disney World’s other parks, there’s plenty here to fill a full day.

This is another park where deciding on your must-do attractions beforehand really helps. Families looking for bigger rides have plenty to choose from, while Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge deserves time to explore rather than simply walking through on the way to the next attraction.

By this stage of the holiday, you may also find that everyone naturally wants to slow down a little. Take advantage of the shows and indoor attractions to give your legs a break, particularly during the hottest part of the afternoon.

If you’re staying for the evening entertainment, consider having a proper sit-down meal or longer afternoon break rather than trying to keep going at full speed all day.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t judge Hollywood Studios by its size. Some of its headline attractions can attract significant queues, so prioritise the rides your family would be most disappointed to miss.

Day 11 – SeaWorld Orlando 🎢

Plan: Full SeaWorld day
Best for: Roller coasters, marine life and families wanting something different

Day 11 gives you a change from Disney and Universal with a visit to SeaWorld Orlando. For families with older children and thrill-seekers, this can be one of the surprise highlights of the holiday thanks to its increasingly strong line-up of roller coasters.

Arrive early and prioritise the major attractions your family wants to experience most, then mix the bigger rides with animal exhibits, presentations and quieter areas throughout the day.

SeaWorld can also feel easier to navigate than some of Orlando’s larger resorts because you’re concentrating on a single park rather than moving between multiple parks, hotels and transport systems.

Don’t feel you have to stay until closing if you’ve achieved everything on your list. Tomorrow involves travelling outside Orlando to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, so a reasonably early finish tonight isn’t a bad idea.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Check the day’s presentation and show times when you arrive. Planning a few rides around them is much easier than realising later that you’ve missed something your family wanted to see.

Day 12 – Busch Gardens Tampa Bay 🎢

Plan: Full-day trip from Orlando
Best for: Roller coasters, animals and families with older children

Day 12 takes you outside Orlando for a trip to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. It’s roughly 70–80 miles from the main Orlando tourist areas, so this is one day where it’s worth planning your transport in advance.

Busch Gardens is particularly good for families who enjoy thrill rides, with some of Florida’s biggest roller coasters alongside animal attractions and quieter areas. Arrive as early as reasonably possible so the journey doesn’t eat too far into your park day.

If you’re driving, allow extra time for traffic in both directions and don’t plan anything important for the evening. After a full park day followed by the journey back to Orlando, you’ll probably appreciate getting back to the hotel and doing very little.

Families who aren’t interested in big roller coasters could easily swap this day for another Disney or Universal park, a second water-park day, Kennedy Space Center or simply another rest day.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t underestimate the drive back after a long theme park day. If nobody in your family particularly wants to visit Busch Gardens, there’s no reason to include it simply because it’s on this itinerary

Planning to drive in Florida? Our Orlando Car Hire for UK Travellers (2027) and Florida Tolls for UK Drivers guides cover car hire, insurance, toll roads and what to expect when driving around Florida.

Day 13 – Favourite Park / Flex Day 🔄

Plan: Repeat a favourite park, catch up on anything you missed or simply relax
Best for: Flexibility and taking the pressure off the rest of your holiday

Day 13 is deliberately left flexible — and it’s actually one of the most useful days in this 14 Day Orlando Itinerary.

By now, your family will almost certainly have a favourite park or an attraction you’d love to experience again. This is your opportunity to return without having to sacrifice something else earlier in the holiday.

You could head back to Magic Kingdom, spend another day at Universal, revisit Epic Universe, or use the day to catch anything you missed because of bad weather, ride closures or simply running out of time.

Alternatively, if everyone is exhausted, forget the theme parks completely. Have a late breakfast, spend the day around the pool, visit the outlets or enjoy a relaxed afternoon at Disney Springs.

Having this day available also takes some of the pressure off the previous 12 days. If something doesn’t go according to plan earlier in the holiday, you know you’ve got some breathing room near the end.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t decide what you’re doing on Day 13 before you travel. Keep it genuinely flexible and make the decision once you’re in Orlando based on what your family wants most.

Day 14 – Relax, Shop & Final Evening 🌴

Plan: Slow final day and enjoy your last evening
Best for: Shopping, relaxing and finishing the holiday without rushing

After nearly two weeks of theme parks and attractions, keep Day 14 deliberately relaxed.

Have a slower morning, enjoy the hotel pool, finish any last-minute shopping or head back to Disney Springs or Universal CityWalk for anything you missed earlier in the holiday.

It’s also worth leaving some time to pack properly rather than spending your final night trying to squeeze everything into suitcases after another exhausting park day.

For your final evening, choose something your family has particularly enjoyed during the holiday. That might be a favourite restaurant, a relaxed walk around Disney Springs or CityWalk, or simply dinner and a drink back at the hotel.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Leave some room in your suitcases when you fly out from the UK. Two weeks of Orlando shopping has a habit of filling it! 😄

How to Adapt This 14-Day Orlando Itinerary

No two Orlando holidays are exactly the same, so don’t be afraid to change this 14 Day Orlando Itinerary to suit your family.

Families travelling with younger children may want to add an extra rest or pool day and reduce the number of full theme park days. If you’re travelling with teenagers or serious thrill-seekers, you might prefer another day at Universal, Epic Universe or one of the coaster-heavy parks.

Busch Gardens is also completely optional. If the journey to Tampa doesn’t appeal, use Day 12 for another Disney or Universal park, Kennedy Space Center, a second water park or simply another day by the pool.

Your Day 13 flex day is particularly useful. Keep it unplanned until you’re actually in Orlando so you can revisit your favourite park, catch an attraction you missed or recover if bad weather changes your plans earlier in the holiday.

Most importantly, don’t judge the success of your holiday by how many attractions you’ve managed to squeeze in. A slightly slower itinerary where everyone is enjoying themselves will almost always beat 14 days of rushing from one reservation to the next.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Before travelling, choose each family member’s three must-do attractions. Make those the priority and treat everything else as a bonus.

14-Day Orlando Itinerary FAQs

Is 14 Days Enough for Orlando?

Yes. Two weeks gives UK families enough time to experience the major Orlando theme parks while still including rest days. You won’t see absolutely everything — and you shouldn’t try to — but 14 days is an excellent length for a first Orlando holiday.

How Many Rest Days Should You Have in a Two-Week Orlando Holiday?

I’d aim for at least two lower-intensity days during a 14-day trip. In this itinerary, Day 6 is a proper rest day, Day 9 is a water park day and Day 13 can become another rest day if your family needs it.

How Many Days Do You Need at Walt Disney World?

For a first visit, four to five days works well for most families. That allows one day for each of Disney’s four main theme parks, with an optional extra day to revisit your favourite.

How Many Days Do You Need at Universal Orlando?

I’d allow at least three days if you want to experience Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe properly. Families particularly interested in Universal may want four or more.

Do You Need a Car for This 14 Day Orlando Itinerary?

Not necessarily, but a car gives you considerably more flexibility — particularly for the Busch Gardens day trip. Families staying mainly at Disney or Universal can use resort transport, rideshares and private transfers for much of their holiday.

See our Orlando Car Hire for UK Travellers (2027) guide if you’re deciding whether hiring a car makes sense for your trip.

Should We Visit Disney or Universal First?

There’s no single correct order. We’ve started with Disney because UK visitors often wake early during the first few days, making that early start useful at Magic Kingdom. The best order for your family may depend on park hours, ticket restrictions, weather and where you’re staying.

Final Thoughts – Planning the Perfect 14-Day Orlando Holiday

A two-week Orlando holiday gives UK families enough time to experience an incredible amount without needing to spend every waking hour in a theme park.

The key is balance. Mixing the major Disney and Universal parks with SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, a water park and — importantly — some downtime makes the whole holiday much more enjoyable.

Use this 14 Day Orlando Itinerary as a starting point rather than a rulebook. Swap days around, remove parks that don’t interest your family and add extra time at the places you love most.

Orlando holidays are expensive and often planned months in advance, but you don’t need every minute scheduled before you leave home. Some of the best days can be the ones where you change the plan completely.

Epic Universe guide
Holiday Blueprint Snapshot: Everything you need to know about Universal Epic Universe at a glance.

The Five Lands of Epic Universe

Epic Universe is divided into five fully immersive themed lands, each designed to transport visitors into a completely different world. Rather than simply moving between rides, you’ll step through impressive portals into unique environments, each with its own attractions, restaurants, entertainment and atmosphere.

Here’s what you can expect from each land.

Holiday Blueprint Park Map: Explore the five immersive worlds that make up Universal Epic Universe.

Ministry of Magic™

Inspired by the wizarding world of 1920s Paris from the Fantastic Beasts films and the British Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series, this land combines magical storytelling with some of the most impressive theming ever created by Universal.

The headline attraction is Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry™, where you’ll travel by Métro-Floo from Paris to the British Ministry of Magic before joining Harry, Ron and Hermione on an unforgettable adventure. The land also features Le Cirque Arcanus™, a spectacular live stage show packed with magical creatures, dazzling special effects and impressive performances.

Beyond the attractions, take time to wander the beautifully detailed Parisian streets, browse magical shops and enjoy wizard-inspired food and drinks. Even if you’re not a huge Harry Potter fan, the atmosphere and attention to detail make this one of Epic Universe’s standout areas.

🧙 Holiday Blueprint Tip: Visit the Ministry of Magic early in the morning or later in the evening to enjoy the incredible theming with fewer crowds and some of the best photo opportunities in the park.

Super Nintendo World™

tep inside one of the world’s most interactive theme park lands, where Nintendo’s most iconic games come to life. Super Nintendo World™ is packed with colourful scenery, familiar characters and interactive experiences that make you feel as though you’ve stepped straight into a video game.

The land is home to Mario Kart™: Bowser’s Challenge, an innovative augmented reality ride that combines physical sets with digital effects, as well as Yoshi’s Adventure™, a gentler family attraction offering fantastic views across the land. Donkey Kong Country™ expands the experience even further with thrilling adventures inspired by the much-loved games.

If you purchase a Power-Up Band™, you can take part in interactive games throughout the land, collect digital achievements and unlock extra experiences using the official Universal Orlando app. It’s a feature that younger visitors and Nintendo fans will particularly enjoy.

Bright, energetic and full of hidden details, Super Nintendo World™ is one of the most visually impressive areas in Epic Universe and is likely to be one of the busiest parts of the park.

🎮 Holiday Blueprint Tip: Head to Super Nintendo World as early as possible if it’s your top priority. Popular attractions and interactive experiences can build long queues shortly after the park opens.

How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk™

Inspired by DreamWorks’ hugely popular How to Train Your Dragon films, Isle of Berk™ brings the Viking village to life with towering cliffs, colourful buildings and, of course, dragons around every corner. It’s one of the most family-friendly areas of Epic Universe while still offering plenty to entertain older children and adults.

The headline attraction is Hiccup’s Wing Gliders™, a family launch coaster that swoops through Berk at speed, delivering just the right balance of thrills and storytelling. Younger visitors can enjoy Fyre Drill™, an interactive boat battle, while the spectacular The Untrainable Dragon™ stage show combines impressive puppetry, music and special effects to recreate the magic of the films.

Beyond the attractions, you’ll find roaming characters, playful interactive moments and beautifully themed restaurants and shops that make the land feel alive throughout the day. Even if you’ve never seen the films, Isle of Berk is packed with charm and is likely to become one of the park’s biggest surprises.

🐉 Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t skip The Untrainable Dragon™ show. It offers a welcome break from the queues and is one of the most highly regarded live entertainment experiences in Epic Universe.

Dark Universe™

Dark Universe™ is Epic Universe’s home for Universal’s legendary monsters, bringing classic horror characters such as Dracula, Frankenstein’s Monster, The Wolf Man and the Invisible Man together in a hauntingly atmospheric village called Darkmoor. With gothic architecture, eerie music and dramatic special effects, it’s one of the park’s most immersive lands.

The headline attraction is Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment™, a thrilling dark ride that combines cutting-edge technology with some of Universal’s most iconic monsters. Those looking for even more excitement can experience Curse of the Werewolf™, a family spinning coaster that delivers plenty of twists and surprises through the mysterious woodland surrounding Darkmoor.

Although the land has a darker theme, it’s designed to be atmospheric rather than overwhelmingly frightening during the day, making it suitable for most visitors. After sunset, the lighting, music and special effects transform Dark Universe into one of the most striking areas of Epic Universe.

👻 Holiday Blueprint Tip: Visit Dark Universe after dark if you can. The lighting, fog effects and dramatic atmosphere make it feel completely different from the daytime experience and create some of the park’s best photo opportunities.

Celestial Park™

Unlike the other themed lands, Celestial Park™ isn’t based on a film or game franchise. Instead, it serves as the beautiful central hub of Epic Universe, inspired by astronomy, nature and imaginative architecture. With lush gardens, elegant fountains and sweeping pathways, it’s the perfect place to relax between attractions while taking in the park’s stunning surroundings.

Celestial Park is home to Stardust Racers™, a high-speed dual-launch roller coaster that has quickly become one of Epic Universe’s signature attractions. You’ll also find Constellation Carousel™, a beautifully designed family ride that puts a modern twist on a classic carousel experience.

As the heart of the park, Celestial Park also offers a wide range of restaurants, cafés and shopping, making it an ideal place to stop for lunch or enjoy a slower pace before heading into another themed world. Both during the day and after dark, it’s one of the most picturesque areas in the entire resort.

✨ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Don’t rush through Celestial Park on your way to the other lands. Take a few minutes to enjoy the gardens, fountains and atmosphere—especially in the evening when the lighting transforms the area into one of the most beautiful spots in Epic Universe.

Best Rides at Epic Universe

With so many world-class attractions, deciding what to ride first can be difficult—especially if you’re only visiting for one day. While every visitor will have their own favourites, these are the attractions we think deserve top priority.

🏆 Holiday Blueprint’s Top Rides

RankAttractionWhy You Shouldn’t Miss It
🥇 1Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry™Ground-breaking storytelling, incredible sets and one of Universal’s most ambitious rides ever created.
🥈 2Stardust Racers™A thrilling dual-launch coaster with incredible speed, airtime and spectacular racing moments.
🥉 3Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment™Cutting-edge technology combined with Universal’s classic monsters makes this a must-ride.
⭐ 4Mario Kart™: Bowser’s ChallengeA unique augmented reality experience unlike anything else in Orlando.
⭐ 5Hiccup’s Wing Gliders™A brilliantly themed family coaster that’s fun for both children and adults.

🎢 Holiday Blueprint Tip: If you’re visiting for just one day, make these five attractions your priority. Arriving before park opening can make a huge difference to how many headline rides you experience.

How Many Days Do You Need at Epic Universe?

The amount of time you’ll need depends on how much you want to experience. While it’s possible to see the highlights in a single day, most visitors will enjoy a far more relaxed visit by allowing extra time to explore the park’s immersive lands, shows and attractions.

Visit LengthHoliday Blueprint Recommendation
1 DayPerfect if you’re focusing on the headline rides and are prepared for a fast-paced day. Arrive before opening and consider using Express Pass if available.
2 DaysThe ideal choice for most visitors. You’ll have time to enjoy the major attractions, explore each land properly, watch the shows and experience the atmosphere without constantly rushing.
3+ DaysBest for dedicated Universal fans or anyone staying at a Universal hotel who wants to revisit favourite attractions and take everything at a more relaxed pace.

📅 Holiday Blueprint Tip: If your holiday includes Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure as well as Epic Universe, plan at least 4–5 Universal park days in total. This gives you enough time to experience all three parks without feeling rushed.

Is Express Pass Worth It?

Universal’s Express Pass allows you to skip the regular queue at selected attractions, helping you experience more rides in less time. Whether it’s worth the extra cost depends on when you’re visiting, how many days you have and which attractions are your priority.

If you’re visiting during school holidays, weekends or other busy periods, Express Pass can significantly reduce your waiting times and make for a much more relaxed day. However, if you’re visiting during quieter times of the year or have two days or more to explore Epic Universe, you may find you can experience most attractions without the additional expense.

It’s also worth remembering that not every attraction may be included with Express Pass, so always check the latest details before you buy.

SituationOur Recommendation
1 day during peak season⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Highly recommended
2 days during peak season⭐⭐⭐⭐ Worth considering
1 day during quieter months⭐⭐⭐ Depends on your priorities
2+ days during quieter months⭐ Usually not necessary

🎟️ Holiday Blueprint Tip: Before buying Express Pass, check the opening hours and crowd levels for your travel dates. Arriving before the park opens and following a good ride strategy can often save you a considerable amount of queueing time.

Tickets & Prices

Ticket prices for Epic Universe vary depending on the time of year, the type of ticket you choose and whether you purchase a single-day ticket or a multi-day Universal Orlando package.

If you’re visiting Orlando for more than a few days, it’s often better value to buy a multi-park ticket that includes Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe. These packages usually offer a lower cost per day than buying separate tickets.

Prices can change throughout the year, so it’s worth comparing your options before you travel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you do Epic Universe in one day?

Absolutely. While there are several thrilling roller coasters, lands such as Super Nintendo World™ and How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk™ offer plenty of family-friendly attractions, interactive experiences and entertainment for younger visitors.

Is Express Pass worth buying?

If you’re visiting during school holidays or only have one day at the park, Express Pass can be a worthwhile investment. If you’re visiting during quieter periods or have two days or more, you may find it’s not essential.

Disney vs Universal Orlando theme parks for UK families
Holiday Blueprint Verdict: Our independent comparison of Disney and Universal Orlando, helping UK families choose the best theme park holiday.

Best for Families

When planning a family holiday to Orlando, one of the biggest questions is whether Disney or Universal offers the better overall experience. The answer depends largely on the ages of your children and the type of holiday you’re hoping to enjoy.

For families with toddlers and younger children, Disney is the clear winner. Classic attractions, character meet-and-greets, gentle rides and magical experiences are designed with younger visitors in mind. Every Disney park offers something for all ages, making it easy for the whole family to enjoy the day together.

Universal has become much more family-friendly in recent years, but its biggest strengths lie with older children, teenagers and adults. Thrill rides, immersive lands such as The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and blockbuster attractions appeal to families looking for more action-packed experiences.

If your family includes children of different ages, visiting both resorts provides the best of both worlds. Disney delivers unforgettable family moments, while Universal adds excitement and bigger thrills that older children often love.

🏆 Holiday Blueprint Verdict:
Winner: Disney for families with younger children.
Winner: Universal for families with teenagers and thrill-seekers.
Overall recommendation: Visit both if your itinerary allows.

Disney vs Universal: Best Rides & Attractions

One of the biggest differences between Disney and Universal is the type of attractions you’ll experience. While both resorts offer world-class rides, they appeal to different audiences and create very different experiences.

Disney focuses on storytelling, immersive environments and attractions the whole family can enjoy together. Classics like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion and Rise of the Resistance combine incredible theming with unforgettable moments. Even the thrill rides, such as Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and TRON Lightcycle / Run, are designed to tell a story rather than simply deliver high speeds.

Universal takes a different approach. Its attractions are generally faster, more intense and packed with action. From Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure and Jurassic World VelociCoaster to Revenge of the Mummy and Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, Universal is the resort most thrill-seekers dream about.

If you’re travelling with younger children, Disney offers the wider range of family-friendly attractions. If you’re travelling with teenagers or adults who love roller coasters and cutting-edge ride technology, Universal has the edge.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Opinion

If you’re chasing unforgettable family experiences, Disney wins. If you’re chasing adrenaline, Universal is hard to beat. The best Orlando holidays include both, giving you the perfect balance of magic and thrills.

Best Theming & Immersion

One of the biggest reasons people fall in love with Orlando is the incredible level of detail found throughout its theme parks. Disney and Universal both create immersive worlds, but they achieve it in very different ways.

Disney is built around storytelling. Every land, attraction and even the background music is carefully designed to make guests feel like they’ve stepped into another world. Whether you’re walking down Main Street, U.S.A., exploring Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge or wandering through Pandora – The World of Avatar, every detail has been considered to create a truly magical experience.

Universal focuses on placing guests inside their favourite films, television shows and games. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter remains one of the most immersive themed lands ever created, while Epic Universe has taken immersion to another level with spectacular environments inspired by Super Nintendo World™, How to Train Your Dragon, Dark Universe and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic™.

If you’re looking for emotional storytelling and classic Disney magic, Disney still sets the benchmark. If you prefer feeling like you’ve stepped directly into blockbuster adventures with cutting-edge technology and incredible attention to detail, Universal is now every bit as impressive.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Opinion

Disney creates magical worlds you’ll remember forever. Universal creates adventures you’ll want to experience again and again. Neither approach is better—they’re simply different, and that’s exactly why visiting both resorts is so rewarding.

Best Hotels

Choosing where to stay is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make when planning an Orlando holiday. Both Disney and Universal offer excellent on-site hotels, but they cater to different budgets and styles of travel.

Disney has more than 25 resort hotels, ranging from great-value options such as Pop Century Resort to deluxe resorts including Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Staying on-site gives you easy access to the parks, complimentary transport across the resort and the opportunity to fully immerse yourself in the Disney experience.

Universal’s hotel collection is smaller but offers exceptional value. Premier Hotels such as Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Hard Rock Hotel and Loews Portofino Bay Hotel include Unlimited Express Pass for every guest, which can save hundreds of pounds for a family. Many Universal hotels are also within walking distance or a short boat ride from the parks, making them incredibly convenient.

If you’re looking for luxury and theming, Disney has the wider choice. If you’re looking for convenience and excellent value, especially when Express Pass is included, Universal is difficult to beat.

Best Food & Dining

Food has become a major part of the Orlando experience, and both Disney and Universal offer far more than traditional theme park meals. From quick-service favourites to award-winning restaurants, you’ll find something to suit every taste and budget.

Disney offers the widest variety of dining experiences, with more than 200 restaurants across its parks, hotels and Disney Springs. Whether you’re enjoying a character breakfast, dining inside Cinderella Castle or sampling international cuisine around EPCOT’s World Showcase, Disney excels at creating memorable meals that are part of the overall experience.

Universal has raised its game significantly in recent years. Restaurants such as The Leaky Cauldron, Mythos, Toothsome Chocolate Emporium and the themed dining locations throughout Epic Universe provide excellent food in immersive settings. Universal’s dining is often easier to book and can represent better value, particularly for families who prefer quicker, more casual meals.

If food is an important part of your holiday, Disney offers greater variety and more unique dining experiences. Universal, however, delivers excellent quality with shorter waits and outstanding themed restaurants.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Opinion

Disney wins for unforgettable dining experiences and variety. Universal wins for convenience, value and some of the best themed restaurants anywhere in Orlando.

Best Value for Money

Planning an Orlando holiday is a significant investment, so getting the best value from your budget is important. While both Disney and Universal offer incredible experiences, they provide value in different ways.

Disney delivers outstanding entertainment, beautifully themed parks and a huge variety of attractions. However, extras such as Lightning Lane passes, character dining and premium resort hotels can quickly increase the overall cost of your holiday. If you’re staying for two weeks and want to experience everything Disney has to offer, it’s worth planning your budget carefully.

Universal often represents better value for families, particularly when staying at one of the Premier Hotels. These hotels include Unlimited Express Pass for every guest, allowing you to skip the regular queues at most attractions. For many families, this benefit alone can save hundreds of pounds compared with purchasing similar queue-skipping access elsewhere.

If you’re travelling on a tighter budget, Universal can provide excellent value without compromising on quality. If you’re looking for a once-in-a-lifetime holiday packed with unforgettable experiences, Disney offers exceptional value despite the higher cost.

⭐ Holiday Blueprint Opinion

For overall value, Universal has the edge thanks to its hotel benefits and included Express Pass. For unforgettable experiences and magical moments, Disney justifies its higher price for many families.

Best for Different Types of Visitors

Every family is different, which means there isn’t a single “best” choice for everyone. Your ideal resort depends on who you’re travelling with and what kind of holiday you want to have.

👶 Families with Young Children

Disney is the clear winner for younger children. Character meet-and-greets, gentle attractions and magical experiences make every day feel special. Magic Kingdom alone offers enough attractions to keep young families entertained for several days.

🎢 Teenagers & Thrill-Seekers

Universal takes the crown for older children and teenagers. Roller coasters such as VelociCoaster and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, combined with Epic Universe’s attractions, create an action-packed holiday.

❤️ Couples

Both resorts offer memorable experiences, but Disney provides romantic dining, beautiful resorts and spectacular evening entertainment. Universal offers a more relaxed pace, fantastic restaurants and exciting nightlife at Universal CityWalk.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Multi-Generational Families

Disney is excellent for larger family groups because every generation can find something to enjoy. Grandparents, parents and children can often experience attractions together, making it ideal for family holidays.

✈️ First-Time Visitors

If this is your first trip to Orlando, don’t feel you have to choose. A split holiday gives you the chance to experience Disney’s storytelling alongside Universal’s thrilling attractions, creating a balanced and unforgettable holiday.
